I met an author from Australia in an on line writer’s group. Rosanne Dingli writes from Western Australia.
She has just released a book on Amazon.com with the title According to Luke.
I have had the opportunity to preview the first two chapters. It is a thriller with a Christian theme. Of course, it appears to be just another nice book about an art expert examining an ancient icon. Of course, the art expert is a beautiful woman and the priest who delivers the icon is tempting. So what? It’s not a romance, but she thinks he is good looking. Nevertheless, the story is about the art work. (Ah yes, part of the fun of writing is to weave romance into the thrillers and action into the romances, but I digress.)
Within the first few pages, the art expert discovers the icon is not what it appears to be, it is potentially of great value artistically and historically. She goes through standard note taking procedures and standard security procedures, but notes disappear and she is mugged by someone wanting her USB drive.
Obviously the icon and its hidden information is of more than face value to someone, and I suspect the heroine will be put at risk because of what she has found. I wish I could write as well as Rosanne. This looks like a fun book.

Reynold Conger Wouldn't Write if It Were Not Fun 
Reynold – I am totally bowled over at how you have dedicated a whole blog to my book and me! I am delighted at the reach this new thriller is enjoying already – and its official launch is not until March 29! People are buying it on Amazon, and I have already received emails of congratulations from all over the world. As an author, I feel confused when asked ‘What genre do you write?’ As the review of ‘According to Luke’ notes, life is not so neatly subdivided into types. I guess we all have bits of the romance/thriller/mystery/psychology genes in our lives and in our writing. Our joint author website at anzauthors.yolasite.com
is a perfect example. There are a dozen of us, all working in different styles and cross-genres. What we do have in common is that we all love our work and put effort into it.

I share your confusion. Several times, I have finished a manuscript and then wondered what genre to call it. A good story has bits of many things. Writers are taught to give depth to their characters. Thus, even in thrillers and mysteries, we insert some love and some hate into the personalities of characters.
Unfortunately, the bookstores want to be able to cluster like books together on a single shelf. It helps their marketing. We are often left wondering what genre to call a manuscript. In fact, the manuscript I am currently trying to market started out as a romance, but by chapter 5 had turned into a thriller.
